Queen’s Baton for the Commonwealth Games 2022 will pay a visit to Centre 21

Project 21 are pleased to announce that when the Queen’s Baton for the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham comes to the Island in June, it will pay a visit to Centre 21. This will be on Friday June 17th and will reach the Centre at 9am.

It will be met by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer. After a few short speeches the plan is to assemble 72 members of Centre 21 charities with each person representing one of the 72 countries competing in the Games. The Baton will then be passed around the world to each representative and we will learn a few basic facts about that country. A flag of the country will then be placed on a large map of the world situate in the middle of the Hall.

The Baton will start with Australia the last host of the Games and finish with England as the host this year. Once all flags are assembled in the centre, they will light up as a final spectacle. The members of the Manx Gateway assisted by students of Ballakermeen High School will prepare the material for the event

£450 Donation to Manx Mencap

Janet Grib, a long time supporter of Manx Mencap, cycled a distance of 400 kilometres across two African Countries to raise money for Manx Mencap and another charity helping people with Learning Disability.

Here she is seen presenting her cheque for £450 to members of the Manx Mencap Committee. The charity are again indebted to Janet for this great achievement

DQ Advocates get active for Project 21

Staff at DQ Advocates have been raising cash for charity by getting active.

They took part in various sporting challenges over three days in aid of Project 21, the Isle of Man organisation which supports and empowers people with learning difficulties.
