A very successful Snail Racing Night was held at Centre 21 on Friday, 21st March when over 80 people gathered together to raise much needed funds for the running and upkeep of the Centre.

Races had been sponsored by the 5 charities involved in Project 21 (Manx Mencap, Down’s Syndrome IOM, Autism in Mann, The Manx Gateway Club, and IOM Special Olympics) plus local companies Shoprite, Barclays and Continent 8, and the snails competing in each race each had an “owner”, “trainer”, and “Shell polisher” who had paid for the privilege of these titles, and were rewarded if their snail won!

These were not real snails, but a DVD of hilarious cartoon races in which the hapless snails were subjected to various dastardly attempts to prevent them winning, usually by their fellow competitors!

A delicious supper was served by Di O’Brien and Margaret Myers and their team, Beryl Wooldridge and her team ran the tote, and the Pay Out was manned by Neil and Nicola Kelly. The raffle was organised by Elan Karran and Daphne Glaister. Geoff Karran was the M.C. (don’t mention the awful snail jokes), and Adrian Mooney in charge of “the technical bits”!

When all the money is collected and counted it is estimated that at least £2,500 will have been raised. A great effort, and many thanks to everyone involved.
